109 years since its beginning, the Department of Highways has maintained its crucial role in
developing Thailand’s highway infrastructure, constructing and maintaining highways, in order to provide
a complete and comprehensive highway network that links seamlessly with neighboring countries, with
the goal of providing the public with efficiency, speed, and safety. The Department is determined to
continue this mission of creating development and security, for the Kingdom and people of Thailand,
well through the future.

1. Phraya Sawat Worawithi (Mr. Saiyut Sanitwongse), Director of the Department of Ways,
1912 – 1914
2. Phraya Sarasat Sirilak (Sansoen Sukkhayang), Director of the Department of Ways, 1915
– 1917, Chief Engineer, Department of Ways, 1917 – 1927
3. Phraya Sathian Thapanakit (Duang Bunnag), Chief Engineer, Department of Ways, 1927 – 1932.
During 1932 – 1934, the Department was under the supervision of Phra Phisan Sukhumwit
(Prasop Sukhum), who was the Chief of the Department of the City (1932 – 1933), Director of
